šš October in the City of Trees = No Rest for My Knees šāāļøš
October is prime running season in Boise, and I ran three half marathons over three consecutive weekends.
The first race was the 50th annual City of Trees Marathon. This year’s race execution was top-notch, with a shirt design similar to the 1976 original and a route that finished on the blue turf at Albertsons Stadium. How cool is that?
The second race was Idaho Running Day. I really like the out-and-back route from Lucky Peak State Park to Marianne Williams Park. The route offers more diversity than the more common Greenbelt routes, with its gradual ascents and descents and the Black Cliffs. The race shirt material and design are nice, and Iām still wearing it after race day.
The third race was the YMCA Halloween Run, with a more traditional Greenbelt course through central Boise. October is a good time to run this route because of the fall colors, but for the upcoming 50th annual YMCA Famous Idaho Potato Marathon in the spring, I hope that the organizers plan a more creative route.
Boise has a great running culture, thanks in part to the local organizations, volunteers, and sponsors that put on the races. Thank you!
