Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) is Vietnam’s largest and most chaotic city. After developing the nerve to cross the motorbike-clogged streets, I visited the Reunification Palace and enjoyed the nightlife on Pham Ngu Lao Street. (Cross the streets by walking at a slow, steady pace. The motorbikes will pass in front of you or behind you. Don’t hesitate or step backwards, or you’re roadkill.) I also went on a day trip to the Cu Chi tunnels, which were the location of several military campaigns during the Vietnam War, and were the Viet Cong’s base of operations for the Tet Offensive in 1968.
