Manizales is a mountain city in the heart of Colombia’s coffee region. I stayed at Hacienda Venecia, a 4th-generation working coffee finca only 30 minutes from Manizales. The coffee plantation covers 480 acres and employs 400 workers during the peak picking season. At Hacienda Venecia I learned all about coffee-growing, the soaking and drying process, and roasting the beans. I spent the rest of my time trekking in the peaceful countryside and drinking coffee.
