I ended my journey in Lima, a city I first visited on my 2013 Peru and Bolivia Trip. While Lima is not far south of the equator, the climate is not tropical. A mist hangs over the city, making everything look grey. The miserable weather reflected how I was feeling about returning home after 5.5 weeks on the road. For most people Colombia is an unknown, the forgotten part of South America1. Likewise, traveling to mainland Ecuador instead of the Galápagos Islands and northern Peru instead of Machu Picchu is unconventional. Taking the “road less traveled” made the trip an interesting and memorable adventure.
