Santuario de Las Lajas is a Gothic-style church straddling a dramatic gorge with a rushing river below. According to believers, the sanctuary is a place of miracles. In 1754 a deaf-mute indigenous girl spoke after seeing the Virgin Mary in the canyon, and later a blind man was cured by the Virgin Mary. Today the sanctuary is one of the most visited pilgrimage sites for Catholics. After taking in the breathtaking scenery, I spent my final night in Columbia in a monastery in the Las Lajas village.
