In the 1960’s and 1970’s, Jhochhen Tole was known as “Freak Street” and was a stop on the hippie trail. After sightseeing at Kathmandu Durbar Square, I walked to nearby Freak Street to grab some lunch and see this historical landmark. I saw a few modern day hippies, but today tourists cluster at Thamel. I ate at the Snowman Cafe, which has been operating since 1965.
Katmandu, I’ll soon be seein’ you
And your strange bewilderin’ time
Will keep me home
