The day before hiking the Inca Trail, I toured the Sacred Valley. In the morning I explored the mountainside ruins of Pisac. Later in the day after lunch, I played a game of Sapo (frog) and drank chicha. In the late afternoon I arrived in Ollantaytambo, an attractive town at the foot of some spectacular Inca ruins and terraces. Ollantaytambo is built directly on top of an original Inca town and has some of the oldest continuously occupied dwellings in South America. I spent hours wandering its narrow streets, many of which have canals running down them. I enjoyed drinks with some other Inca Trail hikers late into the evening, and had to scale the fence of my hotel before retiring for bed.
