On the way to Phnom Penh I stopped in Kampong Cham, a small city that is not heavily touristed. I rented a bike and rode across a bamboo bridge to explore the rural island of Koh Paen. The bamboo bridge is washed away as the river rises in the wet season, and rebuilt again every dry season. A highlight of my time in the Kampong Cham Province was tasting fried spiders and other regional delicacies. The spiders are a species of tarantula that are bred in holes in the ground at nearby rural villages.
