Hoi An, my favorite city in Vietnam, was a major international port in the 16th and 17th centuries. Its well-preserved Old Town boasts ancient Chinese temples, historic merchant houses, and motor-free streets that are lit by lanterns at night. Beautiful Hoi An was a refreshing escape from the traffic and pollution that plagues Vietnam’s other cities. It rained for most of my stay, so I spent much of my time relaxing and drinking inexpensive beer at riverside cafes. I also had a suit tailored at Yaly Couture for a fraction of what I’d pay at home.
